DESCRIPTION:
100% untouched and undisturbed. This fairly early and utterly magnificent
late 19th to early 20th century antique
Chinese
cloisonne enamel over brass, hand made duck figurative trinket or coin box,
is in two parts and seamlessly fit together snugly in the middle. The detailing and applied colored enamel are wonderfully realized and it doesn't suffer from any significant enamel loss, flea bites to any of its edges, stains, fractures, dents, dings or deformities. Both enamel eyes on the duck are intact and without any enamel paint loss. The inlaid brass webbing or scaffolding, which is firstly laid down over the brass body, in order to hold the color enamel in place, is expertly crafted and shows real artistic virtuosity and high craft, on behalf of the
Chinese
artisan who originally crafted it. The colors are iridescent, and remain vivid, rich, bright and saturated. The interior of the box is painted with blue enamel and the bottom is painted with gold gilt enamel. A simply extraordinary, very clean antique
Chinese
cloisonne
piece. Magnificent.
CONDITION:
Very Good to Excellent overall antique condition. There's only some very minor and barely noticeable enamel paint loss right along the middle seam of where the upper and lower halves of the cloisonne duck figure meet. This shows prior and repeated use and is testament to the artifact's antique pedigree. These episodes occur right in the middle and are only visible upon very close inspection, leaving the brass underlayment below a bit brighter in these spots.
