    Description

These beautifully articulated signed carved soapstone Foo Dogs date to the late Qing dynasty c. 1900.  The dog on the left holds a ball in its right paw and the dog on the right is holding a pup with his left paw. Both dogs stand on 4" pedestals that feature beautiful hand engraved flowers, leaves, birds, vases, endless knots etc.  Both are signed at the center of a flower or perhaps the figure of a sun (see our last photo).  The figures are substantial being 8" tall (one is about 1/4" shorter) x 3.5" wide x 2.25" deep.  They weigh a total of  8 lbs. 12.3 oz.  They would serve well as bookends.
